We all want to take better care of our bodies, but these days it feels like there’s a new “miracle food” every month. It can be challenging to know what’s the real deal, especially with the fad diets and trendy health-food culture we live in today. How can you tell the legit from the scams? One way is to rely on history, and that’s where you can find one of our very favorite products: kombucha. Kombucha is on the rise right now, but it’s no fad! People have been drinking kombucha and singing its praises for thousands of years, but it’s only now that we’re understanding exactly why it makes us feel so good!

Originating in China in 221 BC, kombucha has been dubbed the “Immortal Health Elixir” and the “Tea of Immortality”. So what is it exactly? This delicious, lightly carbonated beverage is made by fermenting tea and natural sugars with friendly bacteria and yeast. Once the fermentation process is complete, the drink contains a multitude of vitamins, probiotics and healthy acids¹. And did we mention it’s delicious?

Recently, kombucha has seen a real revival, with many companies producing new, delicious, and innovative flavors. GT’s is a standout, with their wildly popular Trilogy and Gingerade flavors. Other craft companies are popping up as well, such as Marin (known for their barrel aged kombuchas) and Health-ade (we particularly like their Pink Lady Apple.)

While we aren’t scientists ourselves, and we’d caution you that kombucha isn’t a diet substitute or a miracle drink — we like to think of it as a catalyst to aid the body’s natural biologic function!

Here are some of the potential benefits of kombucha²:

Cleanses and detoxifies – possibly the most widespread reason for the trendiness of this drink, kombucha is full of enzymes and bacteria that aids in liver function and detoxes your system.

Improves digestion – as avid tea-drinkers know, the antioxidants contained in tea help settle the stomach and aid in the digestion process. Kombucha’s additional probiotics, good bacteria, and enzymes will keep your gut in tip top shape!

Increases energy – Kombucha is full of iron and vitamin B, which can help you avoid the dreaded 2pm slump. For the caffeine-sensitive, it’s a great alternative to an afternoon coffee.

Boosts immunity – armed with antioxidants, probiotics, and vitamin C, each and every drop of kombucha aims to support your immune system.

Ready to grab a glass? Kombucha lovers everywhere have been flocking to the wonder drink on draft. Why? From more robust flavor to the perfect balance of carbonation, Kombucha on-tap is the way of the future, allowing for more and more restaurants, cafes, offices, and hospitality services to deliver the amazing benefits of this health-focused beverage to more people.
